Halfway through the season is when we start seeing teams do more that just show up on the court. Yes, believe or not, there’s actually some strategy and game planning when it comes to dodgeball. Unless, of course, you are the Los Angeles “fucking” Lakers and your game plan was just to screw Sa Dizzle over on his bet with Brian Donlyuk (long story, don’t ask). Let’s just say that any chance for Peyton Donlyuk to learn the ways of the Venusian Arts has just gone out the window.

Back to dodgeball. Tonight we seem some special matches, including the battle of the Asians at 7pm with WongTranDao vs. Cool Kids and the featured match of every season – Sharktopus II: The Revenge vs. New Directions. As you will see, NLA Overtime “insiders” we able to get their grubby little hands on a copy of New D’s game strategy to win. Looks like we’ll get to see tonight whose side God is really on.

WongTranDao vs Cool Kids – 7pm

The Cool Kids were still reeling from losing Justin Payan, but the blow has been softened somewhat with the Week 3 addition of Kyle Tomatosov, aka Justin Lite. Tonight they face off against the most ridiculous team in the history of NLA Dodgeball – WongTranDao – who apparently seem set on making it their mission this season to set all Asians back another 50 years.

Cool Kids 7, WongTranDao 2.

Home Depot Crew vs. Throwbacks – 8pm

Finally, after several seasons, Throwbacks has finally figured out how to wear their dodgeball shirts properly and have the NLA Dodgeball logo on the front. Does this mean they’re better at dodgeball now? Not really. As for Home Depot Crew, the team is a bit upset that they are no longer a team of cheap stereotypes. With the crappy economy, over qualified white people are settling for jobs that Mexicans hanging outside of Home Depot used to have. What has that meant to this team? More time to practice dodgeball.

Home Depot Crew 6, Throwbacks 3.

New Directions vs. Sharktopus II: The Revenge: 8pm

The two teams have a total of 5 championships between them, and unless Justin decides to jump out of retirement, we expect one of them to win it all again. New D’s is still in championship form, dominating all season. But as the fucking Lakers have proven, that means jack shit in the playoffs. Already losing to IB earlier this season, it’s clear the Sharks just want to cruise through the regular season before turning it on for the playoffs. Will it be too late?

New Directions 5, Sharktopus 4.

Balls of Fury vs. Inappropriate Behavior – 9pm

Needless to say, Inappropriate Behavior is a completely different team now. No Justin, no Kelly, no Tina, but most importantly NO JOSH or CHRIS DIAZ! It’s like eating a meat lover’s pizza without the crust. It doesn’t make any sense. Speaking of not making any sense, how does a roster like Balls of Fury start the season 0-3? I’ll tell you how! When Elijah is totally screwing my fantasy team by only averaging 5 points per week! Anyone want to make a trade?

Inappropriate Behavior 6, Balls of Fury 3.

Mighty Red Duck Wings vs Scared Hitless – 9pm

MRDW actually is very similar to WongTranDao – fun team, dresses up in theme each week, but still finds a way to win games. Scared Hitless has also been winning games this season, much to everyone’s surprise. With both teams tied for 2nd place, it should be another good match tonight. The big question is what time of team will MRDW play like tonight? Mighty Ducks or the Red Wings? Oh wait, one is already out of the playoffs and the other is just about there as well.

Scared Hitless 5, Mighty Red Duck Wings 4.

The news on the wire is OSAMA IS DEAD! How patriotic! The Nation unites with cries of joy all across the land. We are a melting pot of unity and pride. Just take a look at our teams this season. Nothing says America, f*ck yeah! like a league chock full of happy supporters of the American Dream.

Throwbacks: Nothing is greater than the American past time of sports, cold beer and good friends. Its like an episode of Cheers right off the streets of Boston. Where everybody knows your name. Karaoke tonight anyone?

Mighty Red Duck Wings: Quack Quack Quack! Another favorite past time.

Sharktopus II: The Revenge: Ever since the dawn of hokey black and white silent films, Americans a reveled in the talents of B and C movie producers to produce a great shock and awe effect of how…eh…creative they can be. Not to mention the next best sci-fi thriller creature. Dracula, King Kong, Rabid Alien monsters of all sizes, Sharktopus and coming soon…Pirahnaconda.

Home Depot Crew: Where would America be without the men and women who actually built it? Sure they may not be American, but they make a mean burrito!

Scared Hitless: Andrew McCutchen anyone? At least he represents America’s top 5 All-American sports leagues! Hey batter batter batter batter!

WongTranDao: Where would America be without the men who taught us how to count properly and all the technology to keep it humming along? Not to mention the women who taught us why utter beauty wasn’t everything. Useless trivia: How many Little Saigons are there in the country? How many Chinatowns are there in the country? Whats the difference? First person to give me the answer gets a beer.

Cool Kids: Welcome back to high school folks. The American Dream of all of our children and even in our own childhood, to be the “cool kid”. America wouldn’t be the same with out the public displays of coolness from our youth. Just be thankful OUR Cool Kids aren’t friends with Jeffrey Dahmer.

Balls of Fury: Sorry men. I know, American women are tough, strong minded and occasionally, we get a kick out of giving you blue balls. Thus, you have, Balls of Fury.

Inappropriate Behavior: America is the ONLY place you will find producers of movies like “Girls Gone Wild” , MTV’s TRL Summer Break where there are wet tshirt contests and booty shake contests. *sigh* Only in America.

New Directions: Save the best for last. This phrase is a resounding one which has been used by many of our presidents including President Obama. HE promised us change and taking a new direction on money, war and education. 1/1millionth down. Many more to go sir.

Remember when Michael Jordan retired and it felt like the world of basketball was missing something? Well, Justin Payan’s retirement from NLA Dodgeball is nothing like that at all. In fact, to compare it to the void that Jordan left basketball is a gross insult to His Airness. But that shouldn’t diminish what Mr. Payan has done for the league and for the game. He was smart. Not only did he have a cannon for an arm, but was a sharpshooter with it as well. His mastery on the court was shared as he taught others the game. And above all, he played with heart and honesty. And it was his heart that finally and honestly told him he was no longer able to stop the rise of a new dodgeball power…..Glen Tibay.

In an exclusive interview with Dodgeball Daily, Payan was quoted last season as stating, “Sometimes you just got to know when to hang it all up. It’s not that I can’t play anymore – but it’s time for me to focus on other things. Like the woman I love, Katy…er, I mean Kelly Salamone.”

Who could blame him? Dodgeball is a demanding sport, and not everyone is built to be able to play it for a long time. NLA has brought in a new breed of athletes, and it’ll be up to them to carry on the legacy Justin left behind.

NLA Overtime takes a closer look at the next line of potential dodgeball greats:

1. Glenn Tibay – Also known as the “Dodgeball Ninja,” Glenn has made a name for himself by playing in just about every dodgeball league and tournament in Southern California. Though he doesn’t have the strongest arm nor is he very good at catching, Glenn has mastered the dodgeball art of standing in corner all by himself with a ball while yelling at the rest of his teammates to throw it.

2. William Harris – If you don’t know who we’re talking about, it’s “The Black Matrix.” The Black Matrix has made a name for himself by being more “black” than anyone else. That hasn’t necessarily translated into an MVP season yet, but everyone in Compton is holding their collective breath. One thing’s for sure, the guy has dodgeball moves that would make any Las Vegas stripper jealous – mid air spread eagles, instant splits, and he can even put both of his legs behind his ears. He just may be the Chosen One….at least for the Spearmint Rhino.

3. Michael Feathers – The “Last Samurai” came into the league as a savior to the Great Balls of China. And a hero he was – making sure the team went 1-7 instead of 0-8. The opposite of The Black Matrix, Feathers is what you could call a pretty white boy. And though his name and looks may suggest otherwise, The Last Samurai will wreck havoc on the dodgeball court.

4. Jason Vagley – The name says it all.

Editor’s note: Rumor has it that The Black Matrix will not be playing ASC Dodgeball this season and is, instead, staying in the Newport Matrix Grid searching for the “key” to his game. It has also been pointed out that no women were listed above and that this could be a reflection of a sexist attitude toward the ladies. On the contrary please see #4. I rest my case.
